Medical Nutrition Therapy
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is an evidenced based therapeutic individualized approach to treating medical conditions and their associated symptoms related to nutrition & eating behaviors. The role of MNT when administered by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is to reduce the risk of developing complications in pre-existing conditions such as type 2 diabetes as well as ameliorate the effects any existing conditions such as high cholesterol.
Therapy is based on Integrative and Functional Medicine. It is a specialty practice group of nutrition practitioners whose core philosophy centers around a holistic, personalized approach to health and healing. We integrate a variety of nutrition therapies including whole foods, tailored supplements and mind body modalities in clinical practice. At Janai Meyer Nutrition and Lactation we practice Motivational Interviewing therapy.
Motivational Interviewing is a goal-oriented, client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence. Compared with non-directive counseling, it’s more focused and goal-directed. It departs from traditional Rogerian client-centered therapy through this use of direction, in which therapists attempt to influence clients to consider making changes, rather than non-directively explore themselves.
